Our story
Ashnola Guide Outfitter started in 1978 by my grandfather, Jim Camarta. Jim purchased the area from his good friend Herb Clark for the price of $2,000.00. Jim started working the area for a couple of years then teamed up with my father Clarence Schneider in 1980. Clarence started taking Cougar and Mule deer hunters in the Ashnola Valley.
In the early 1980’s Clarence bought out Jim for $5,000.00. In the late 1980’s Clarence bought Pat Wright’s area of Princeton for the amount of $50,000.00. Clarence then combined both areas making it one. I believe Lower Similkameen Indian Band were trying to buy Pat out at the same time, but Pat did not want to sell to the band. In the early 1990’s Clarence bought another guide area from Ken Marcel in the amount of $15,000.00 and joined this area to the other area making it approximately 3,500 square miles of total guide area, making it the biggest guide area in region 8.
I, Darrell Schneider worked for my grandfather Jim Camarta and my father Clarence Schneider as an assistant guide since the early 1980’s. In 2002 I bought Ashnola Guide Outfitter from my father. In 2014, my daughter Taylor Schneider started working as a assistant guide.
